How Square fees work
Square charges a percentage plus a small fixed fee per transaction, and the rate depends on how the card is taken: 2.6% + 10¢ in person, 2.9% + 30¢ online, 3.5% + 15¢ keyed. Lower in-person rates come with the paid Plus and Premium plans.
fee = percentage × amount + fixed · to net a target: charge = (target + fixed) ÷ (1 − percentage)

Frequently asked questions
What are Square’s fees in 2026?
Square’s standard rates are 2.6% + 10¢ for tapped or dipped in-person card payments, 2.9% + 30¢ for online payments, and 3.5% + 15¢ for manually keyed transactions. Paid plans (Plus, Premium) lower the in-person rate.
How do I calculate my Square net?
Multiply the sale by the percentage, add the fixed fee, and subtract from the sale. A $100 in-person sale at 2.6% + 10¢ leaves you $97.30.
Did Square raise its online rate?
Yes — as of January 2026, Square raised the online rate for Free-plan users to 3.3% + 30¢. The 2.9% + 30¢ online rate now applies on the paid Plus plan. Use the custom option to match your exact rate.
